Our School History

St. Clare Montessori School was conceptualized and established by Dr. Remedios G. Aquino, Education Supervisor of DepEd, Rizal, from 1984 to 2002, and OIC-Asst. Schools Division Superintendent/Education Supervisor-Science of the Department of Education, Antipolo City, from 2003 to November 2008, and her daughter, Mrs. Evangeline A. Revilla, a former teacher of Assumption School, Antipolo City, in response to the educational thrust of providing quality education.
The school’s Board of Directors was organized, and its first meeting was held on July 11, 1995. The school was duly registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission on September 27, 1995. All the requirements needed to operate the school were submitted to the DECS, Region IV, and the permit to operate was issued in October 1995. The first building was constructed, and all the facilities and instructional materials were prepared before its opening.
The school was officially opened in June 1996 with courses in Pre-School and Grade 1. It had an enrolment of 150 in its first year of operation with four teachers under the Directress, Mrs. Evangeline A. Revilla. The school used the Montessori Method as well as the eclectic approach to meet the needs of the students. From then on, enrollment has increased year by year. The school complied with all the legal requirements, so the Government Recognition for Pre-School and Elementary Course was approved and granted on November 3, 1997, with Numbers K- 00006, 5-1998, and E-008, SY-1998. To continue to provide quality and enriching experiences to the students, the curriculum for pre- and grade schools was enriched to meet the needs of the students and to cope with fast advances in technology. Likewise, varied in-service training and seminar workshops on the management and supervision of instruction using the Montessori Method were attended by the administrative staff and teaching personnel.
To cope with the growth of the student population, an additional building was constructed in May 2000. The school is equipped with computers, audiovisual aids, Montessori materials, Science equipment, apparatuses, and library materials to meet the thrust of teaching and learning through information and communication technology. The school focuses on three A’s: Attitude, Action, and Achievement. To continue to provide quality education and produce functional learners not only in the pre-school and elementary levels, St. Clare Science High School with Special Science Curriculum was opened in June 2003 with Government Permit 005, s. 2003.
Its vision shall be the center of excellence in Science and Technology, and its mission is to provide gifted students with special training in Science and Mathematics. Moreover, it aims to develop a globally competitive citizenry motivated by the love of GOD, country, and concern for the nation.
SCSHS is duly recognized Science High School with Recognition No. 001, S.2005. In 2006, Mrs. Abigail SJ. Aquino joined the administration as the Assistant Directress. She conceptualized the inclusion of the foreign language (Mandarin) in the curriculum from the preparatory level to Grade 10, and in 2017, the Preschool level was also included in the program. Likewise, through her eagerness to further enhance the reading skills and develop among the students’ love for reading, in 2015, the school tied up with Scholastic, an international publishing company. Since then, the Assessment and Enrichment Program (AEP) has been implemented from Grades 1 -10. It provides literary and instructional reading materials, computerized assessments, modules, and books that helped a lot to improve students’ reading skills and English proficiency.
To enrich the curricular offerings in line with the K to 12 Basic Education program, Mother Tongue was included in the curriculum in Grades 1-3 levels in 2012.
Moreover, to cope with the advent of technology and develop globally competitive learners, in 2012, through the initiative of Mr. Jerome G. Aquino, the School Board Secretary, computer laboratories were completed with Internet access. Furthermore, in 2014, projectors were installed in every classroom where the teachers utilized varied instructional strategies to make the teaching-learning activities meaningful. In 2015, He also initiated the installation of CCTV Full High Definition cameras, Fire alarms, and smoke detectors to ensure safety inside the school premises.
In its commitment to providing quality education despite financial challenges, the school took the initiative to apply for PEAC Accreditation in 2019, headed by Ms. Abigail SJ. Aquino, enabling students to benefit from the Educational Service Contracting (ESC) vouchers. Through unity and hard work, the school successfully achieved PEAC accreditation in 2020, allowing qualified Junior High School ESC grantees to enjoy this valuable support. This milestone reflects our unwavering dedication—not only to academic excellence but also to the holistic development of every student. As a trusted educational institution, we continue to uphold the high standards set by PEAC and the Department of Education, ensuring that every child receives the quality education they deserve.
When everyone was caught unprepared by the pandemic caused by COVID-19 in early 2020. Mrs. Abigail SJ. Aquino was appointed as the School Directress before the opening of the unusual and very challenging school year 2020-2021. As the newly appointed directress, she was persistent to endure the challenges of the huge turn around brought by the pandemic in transitioning the learning deliveries from face-to-face to purely online using synchronous and asynchronous modalities with the guidance and approval of the School President, Dr. Remedios G. Aquino.
While COVID-19 has brought about many tough adjustments, it has also pushed for digital transformation among schools. To answer the needs of the changing world in the educational system, she led and supervised the transformation of SCMS/SCSHS to St. Clare Highflier Optimal Online Learning System or S.C.H.O.O.L.S., to continuously offer high-quality education in pursuing the mission and vision of the school in developing globally competitive individuals. S.C.H.O.O.L.S. allows students to engage more in different activities optimizing their learning performances in a holistic approach. It signifies our continuous commitment in providing high-quality education to our students at the safety of their homes while still facing the challenges brought by the pandemic. To keep up with the high demands on the use of technology in teaching, she designed the teachers and staff training program to strengthen digital skills and develop new teaching methodologies to ensure effective teaching and learning processes in developing 21st-century skills among students amidst the pandemic. The school was impelled to its limit to discover and adapt to the new normal way of teaching deliveries. She crafted, aligned, and calibrated the school curriculum to make a difference and be true to our promise of not settling for less if we can give more to our students because she firmly believes that the school can give more despite the pandemic. The school goes beyond the MELC by enriching it and partnering with learning solution providers like Schoology, a New York-based learning management system used worldwide that manages all of the school's online and offline students' activities. She also upgraded the school partnership with Scholastic to continue the school advocacy in reading. Students can access the digital library or eLibrary where they can read and take book quizzes online at the comfort of their homes.
On the same goals, through the initiative of Mr. Jerome G. Aquino, the School Board Secretary and Physical Development Officer, the transformation as well as the internet connectivity of the whole school to be online-ready was improved. He also led the Physical transformation of the school in accordance with technological advancement and School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT) needs. He upgraded the implementation and monitoring of health safety protocols by disseminating health and safety protocols equipment and tools in the mitigation of the spread of Covid 19. He made sure that all the students, parents, teaching, and non-teaching staff will be safe upon entering the school premises. To conform with the new normal education, during the summer of 2022, with the leadership of the School Directress, Ms. Abigail SJ. Aquino and with the approval of the School President and Administrator, Dr. Remedios G. Aquino, the school transitioned into more learning modalities such as Purely Online, Hybrid, and Hyflex Learning Modalities.
With all the extensive preparations for the Safe Return to School of the learners headed by the School Directress and School Physical Development Officer, on the 10th of June, 2022, SCMS/SCSHS passed the School Safety Assessment Tool Validation, wherein the DepEd Officials visited the school and checked if SCMS/SCSHS can adhere with the DepEdOrder no. 017, s.2022 and DepEd-DOH JMC n0. 01, s. 2021, which contains indicators and standards that would show the readiness of the school to participate in the limited face-to-face learning modality.
The school continues to uphold its standards of learning, its vision, and mission, and core values especially now that we are slowly transitioning to increasingly flexible delivery modes for students to provide multiple pathways and opportunities and adapt to the system of education in whatever situation we may have.
From the time of its operation in 1996 and up to the present, the school is soaring to excellence in Science, Mathematics, and English. The pandemic hits but the school is more resilient. Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, the school continues to excel. Different webinars and workshops have been conducted and participated. Potential pupils and students have won in Division, Regional, and National level Competitions in Science, Mathematics, English, and other academic and non-academic activities that brought honors not only to the school but also to DepEd Antipolo and Region IV-A as well. This is proof that despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, the school upholds its standards in offering high-quality education.
